Peter Cunningham was born 1947 in Cambridge, MA, son of a Cloud Physicist and a Math Teacher, he was raised in Lincoln, MA, and was a high jump champion. He left Wesleyan University where he studied anthropology in 1968 after 3 years to go on the road with singer Janis Ian. He then discovered photography. He spent much time as a youth in Grand Manan, New Brunswick.
